EVENTS FOR INCENTIVE GROUPS

BEACH SPORTS CONTEST

Most groups enjoy an element of competition and a few suggestions to get everybody involved in the fun are provided below.

The setting for the event is most important. As all beaches in Rio are public and generally crowded, we recommend this done in conjunction with the Tropical Islands Cruise Tour, turning it into a full-day tour and event that goes well into the evening. With the paradise scenery and semi-private facilities on the island, the setting for our Cruise and Beach Sports is perfect. If you should opt for a satellite arrangement (ex. 3 nights in Rio, 2 nights at Hotel Elias C, Itacuruçá Island or any of the resort hotels outside Rio) we can even count on the facilities of the hotel for our event.

After lunch, teams compete for points or medals. Each team should have a captain, who select which team members will participate in each event, as well as confer on selecting judges!

Suggested events:
* BEACH SCRABBLE Lettered balls are dropped off the side of the schooner. Team swimmers fetch them and bring, tow, or throw the balls to other teammates on shore. These form scrabble-patterned words in the sand. Winners are those who form the greatest number of words in the allotted time.

* KAYAK RELAY A short course is marked off into lanes. Four man teams take turns paddling kayaks to marker flags and back to start, where the next team member takes over. Winners are first, second and third teams to complete the course.

* SOCCER (FOOTBALL) On the beach a field is marked. An even number of teams play against each other in games of tem or fifteen minutes duration.

At the Elias C; (Or other resort hotel)

* TENNIS/TABLE TENNIS Single or double match with members from each team.

* VOLLEYBALL As soccer (Football).

* FISHERMAN'S LUCK The swimming pool is turned into a fish pond with lots of small pieces of polystyrene (or other floating material) with a hook and a number written underneath. Each guest tries his luck catching a piece in the allotted time with a fishing rod. The number on the back corresponds to X number of points. The judge decides!

* Other events can include tug-of-war, hide and-seek, sand sculpture contest, coconut relay, trekking, etc. Your imagination is the limit.

DURATION: 12 hours.

CAPACITY: 400 pax split into two groups at opposite ends of beach.

CONSIDERATIONS:
Unfortunately, there is no backup in case of heavy rain. We strongly suggest having emergency, alternative rainy-day backup for this event. If at all possible, Beach Sports Contest will be rescheduled during the group's stay.

ENHANCEMENTS:
* Give out beach kits, including: Specially designed canvas bags commemorative of The Beach Sports Contest, in which are placed suntan lotion, sun glasses, and specially-made commemorative beach towels.

* Make special, commemorative T-shirts, color-coded to facilitate team recognition.

* Musical entertainment during dinner

* Fireworks display at sundown.

PICNIC IN THE PARK

DESCRIPTION
In the rolling hills of Gávea neighborhood, one finds the former site of a small mansion, today the Parque da Cidade. The former manor house has been transformed to a small museum with a permanent exhibition of the Rio de Janeiro City History. The park surrounding is a perfect place for a picnic. From manicured lawns to thick jungles with waterfalls you guests will marvel with this "forgotten" oasis in the middle of the city.

The group is greeted by a strolling samba trio, and mulata dancing girls. Picnic tables have been set up with a buffet of Potato salad, cold slaw, beet salad, lettuce and vegetable vinaigrette; Several varieties of fresh-baked breads and rolls for sandwich-making, sandwich meats; Hot plates like roast beef, chicken, and tangy "linguiças" sausages. To drink; A bounty of fresh tropical fruits.

After lunch, a spectacular Capoeira show takes place on the grass, while a troupe of dancer/musicians set the rhythm for the wild, but superbly controlled, gyrations that end in flying kicks, somersaults, and general acrobatic antics.

This event can be combined with several of the tours as a unique ending, and offers a side of Rio de Janeiro that visitors rarely have a chance to appreciate.

DURATION: 2 1/2 hours.

CAPACITY:  According to season and size of group, back up reservations at nearby restaurants should be considered. Though, not always possible!

ENHANCEMENTS:
* Parasols with company name & logo to shade during lunch and show.

* Security guards to guarantee privacy for the group.
