was the site of the decisive battle that drove the Dutch invaders from
the region. Our Lady of Vitória Church was built there in
the 17 th century to celebrate that important event.
Also worth visiting are São Jorge Church and São Sebastião
Cathedral. Ilhéus is located 293 miles from Salvador and also
has lovely beaches. The part of the state around Ilhéus is responsible
for 65% of Brazil's cocoa production. |
