With luck, animals and some of the beautiful birds of the region can be seen. After a jeep ride of 3 km, a short walk through the forest, before arriving on the banks of the "Iguaçu River" where the "Macuco Falls" can be seen in all its splendor.

Here, in safe, open rubber boats, with outboard engines with a capacity of 12 passengers each, we cruise upriver in the middle of the "Iguaçu Canyon". The view of the "Iguaçu falls" is unforgettable. Early departure from hotel going into "Iguaçu National Park" through a three-kilometer-path called "Bananal". This trekking deep inside the forest will provide passengers with great opportunity to observe several different species of subtropical plants and trees including the heart-of-palm, which grows in abundance here. With a bit of luck, animals and various birds of the region can be seen. The trek continues further into the forest till the banks of the "Iguaçu River", from where the "Macuco Falls" can be seen in all its splendor. Here, safe open boats with outboard engines and capacity for 12 persons each, are awaiting the passengers. It is time to start the real adventure, with an upriver cruise in the middle of "Iguaçu Canyon" and a great view of "Iguaçu Falls". If the water level of the river allows, the boats can arrive right next to the falls themselves, where the passengers will experience a thrill never to be forgotten. Upon arriving at the Yacht Club, on banks of "Parana River", a delicious fish dish is served. After a rest, the excursion continues, by boat, downstreamtoward a little Paraguayan town called "Puerto Bertoni".

Here, amidst other attractions, the work of an important Swiss scientist specialized in Botany can be seen and admired. In spite of his death in "Foz do Iguaçu" in 1929, his works and studies including analyzes and classification of about 7,000 different trees and plants continues. He did all this work with the help of his family, using a small printing-machine in the middle of the forest. This memorable man, who left the comfort of Europe and went to live in the Paraguayan Jungle, also left an great inheritance, in form of manuscripts and catalogues yet, to be published, and many name plates used to identify trees and plants. Return to the Yacht Club by boat, and then by land, to the hotel with arrival scheduled for 18h00. Duration: 10 hours.

Starting from the hotels on the Brazilian side. Visit the waterfalls on Argentine side, continue to "Puerto Wanda" (30 km from the falls) where the "Urupes Mines" are located. "En route", several mate tea plantations and pine groves will be passed. At the mine, see the miners work in the open-air site for geodes and then cut the stones and transform them into the finished product. On site they sell
the Amethysts, Aqua-Marines, Topazes, etc. Full day tour including lunch on the Argentinean side.

IGU040A - JESUIT RUINS AND TRINIDAD-FROM BRAZILIAN HTLS

Leave the hotel very early in the morning. Our destination is "Ciudad de Encarnacion", in Paraguay, situated 280 km from the Friendship bridge. Visit the Ancient Jesuit missions of Jesus and Trinidad. Along the road we can see the plantations of cotton, Soya, mate tea, "caqui", manioc etc., passing by Japanese and German colonies. Arrival at the ruins of Jesuits and Trinidad about 10:00 A.M. Visiting the ruins which date from 1700/1730 and the Spanish
colonization and the confirmation of the Indians of this regions by the missionary priests. These Missions have, Indian houses, houses where the priests lived, pharmacy, Police Station, jail, cemetery, etc.

About 01:00 PM, lunch at Hotel Tirol, very interesting due to its location in the forest. Visit to "Encarnacion" (border of Argentina), returning to Iguaçu about 8 o'clock in the evening.
