One
of the world’s newest capitals was planned by the architects Lúcio Costa
and Oscar Niemeyer. Visitors to Brasília are
often dazzled by the city's
daring architecture and bold design.
The city's residential sections are located in areas known as
“super blocks”, self-sufficient clusters of six-story buildings.
The area between the blocks is used for
shopping centers, schools, parks and theaters.
The
architecture must truly be seen to be believed. Buildings
like the Alvorada
Palace, the Metropolitan Cathedral or the National
Congress are of an unusual
but harmonious design. The National Congress is open to visitors as
are the Cathedral
(seating 4.000).
The National Theater
and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with its beautiful gardens,
lakes and works of art.
Brasilia has a number
of fine Hotels and restaurants that host important political figures from
Brazil and all over the world.
Brasília's
international airport is the gateway to the entire region,
with non-stop flights to most major cities in Brazil. Brasília can also
be reached by highway front Rio de Janeiro (721 miles), São Paulo
(631 miles) and Cuiabá (713 miles).
